Policy framework completed for primary healthcare programme – Akandoh
The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has stated that the government has finalised the policy framework for the Primary Healthcare Programme and is now implementing steps to roll it out later this year.
He disclosed this while speaking to the media after a bilateral meeting with the Regional Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the African Region, Prof. Mohamed Yakub Janabi, on Tuesday, January 27.
The Minister explained that the programme forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s agenda to achieve universal health coverage and strengthen access to basic healthcare services nationwide.
“As part of the President’s plans to achieve universal health coverage, he promised Ghanaians free primary healthcare. The policy framework is ready, and we have begun stakeholder engagements to ensure broad participation and the success of the programme. Very soon, we will roll out the free primary healthcare initiative,” he said.
