Power Outages Hit Accra and Western Region – ECG Explains

June 8, 2026

Accra, Ghana – The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has confirmed that parts of the Greater Accra and Western Regions are currently experiencing power outages due to separate technical faults affecting its distribution network.

According to the power distributor, the disruptions have impacted several communities in both regions, prompting immediate intervention by engineering teams to restore electricity supply.

Affected Areas in Accra

In the Accra West operational area, residents in communities including Hebron, Medie, Samsam, Satellite, Koleman, and surrounding areas have been affected by the power outage.

ECG attributed the disruption in these areas to a technical fault at the Nsawam Primary Station, which has affected normal power distribution within the network.

Western Region Also Impacted

In the Western Region, the power outages have been linked to a broken high-tension (HT) electricity pole at Ankasa, which has disrupted supply to multiple communities.

Affected areas include:

  • Asemkrom, Jema, Boinso, Omanpe, Kwahu, Atokosue
  • Nkwanta, Enchi Township, Elubo, Nyankamam, Akontonbra
  • New Yakasi, Old Yakasi, Adjakaa, Achimfo, Abokyia, and surrounding communities

Restoration Efforts Underway

The Electricity Company of Ghana has assured customers that repair works are in progress, with engineers deployed to fault locations to address the challenges and restore supply as soon as possible.

The company indicated that it is working to resolve the faults and return electricity to affected areas within the shortest possible time.

Public Advisory

ECG has apologised to residents for the inconvenience caused by the outages and advised the public to exercise caution, particularly around electrical installations, while restoration works are ongoing.
